San Jose, California – Oct. 11, 2013 – Controversial anti-virus software pioneer and YouTube sensation, John McAfee, disclosed on The Costa Report, his next venture will be headquartered in "Silicon Beach," otherwise known as Santa Cruz, California.  In his only one-hour radio interview since returning to the United States, McAfee disclosed to host, Rebecca Costa, that his next foray into technology will target "privacy issues."  According to the former founder of McAfee Associates, the right to private communications is under attack.  He plans to make available a simple, inexpensive technology which will ensure that internet, telephone and other communications are protected from being accessed or monitored by unauthorized agents.

Though rumors were circulating McAfee might headquarter his new company offshore, based on his experience with government corruption in Belize he stated that he has "learned his lesson."  He is presently looking for a "mansion, or group of houses" in the Santa Cruz area to launch his new start-up.  The proximity to Silicon Valley, reverse commute, availability of scientists and engineers, were all cited as ideal conditions for a rapid lift-off.

In his interview, McAfee also discussed widespread misperceptions which continued to dog the successful entrepreneur long after he sold his anti-virus software company.  He described his popular YouTube video as an exaggeration of rumors that painted him as "some mad dog."  He is optimistic that "people are beginning to see through all that," citing a recent poll by a leading technology magazine as evidence that public perception has done an about-face.  When asked who readers would like to see replace Steve Ballmer, the head of Microsoft, John McAfee was drafted as the top candidate. Costa asked McAfee if Microsoft had contacted him yet, to which McAfee replied "No . . . (because) I'd fire everyone there . . . or at the very least, offer them a softer job."
