Why Libraries Matter
We have to remember that libraries provide access to literacy and culture. It's nothing short of arrogance to assume that everyone can afford to buy a book, let alone a kindle or a computer; especially at a time when families are struggling to hold on to their homes and even to eat. During such a time, should we also take books, help with research, access to computers, and the pure joy of reading and discovering away? To this day, every scientist I know depends on libraries and great librarians. What does it say about a society and where we are headed, when we allow libraries to be dismantled one limb at a time and do nothing? Video |
